Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-08-02
These Terms are the agreement between you and HIHITEAM, the team behind Petnunu — the Petnunu Desktop app for macOS and the Petnunu website. Please read them before you create an account. If you do not agree with them, please do not use Petnunu.

1. About these Terms
Petnunu is operated by HIHITEAM. In these Terms, "we", "us" and "Petnunu" mean HIHITEAM; "you" means the person using the service.
They cover everything we run: the macOS app, the website, the pet store, the coin wallet, pet care, the community forum and the pet generator (Petnunu Studio).
Our Privacy Policy explains what data we hold and why. It forms part of these Terms.
2. Who we are
Service provider: HIHITEAM, Viet Nam. Email: [email protected]. We are the publisher of the Petnunu Desktop app and of the Petnunu website, and the host of the pet packs and forum posts our users share.
This is also our single point of contact for users, for authorities and for the notices described in "Reporting illegal content". You can write to us in English or Vietnamese.
3. Words we use
- "App" — Petnunu Desktop, our macOS app.
- "Website" — the Petnunu website and the pages we publish under it.
- "Account" — the login you create with an email address and a password.
- "Pet pack" — a bundle of pixel-art sprites, sounds and a manifest file that makes up one pet.
- "Coins" — the virtual items used inside Petnunu to unlock pets, feed them and run the generator.
- "Your content" — anything you upload or post: pet packs, comments, forum topics and replies, pet names, generator prompts and the text of reports you send.
4. Who can use Petnunu
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
- In the EEA, several countries set the age for consenting to online services on your own at 14, 15 or 16. Where your country does, that higher age applies to you instead of 13, unless a parent or guardian consents for you.
- If you are under 18, you may only use Petnunu with the permission of a parent or guardian, who accepts these Terms together with you.
- You may not use Petnunu if we have previously closed your account for breaking these Terms.
You do not need an account to install the app, use the built-in pets offline, or browse the pet catalogue. An account is only required for the store, coins, pet care, the forum and Petnunu Studio.
5. Your account
- You create an account with an email address, a display name and a password of 8 to 128 characters.
- We do not send a confirmation email today, so type your address carefully — it is how we would reach you.
- Your password is stored only as an argon2id hash. Nobody at Petnunu can read it.
- Keep your password to yourself. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you.
- A signed-in session lasts up to 30 days. Signing out ends it immediately, on that device.
- One person, one account. Do not open extra accounts to get around a ban or to farm free coins.
If you think someone else has access to your account, change your password and write to us at [email protected] straight away.
6. Your licence to use the app
HIHITEAM grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Petnunu Desktop on Macs you own or control, for your own use.
The app, its code, the built-in pets, the name "Petnunu" and our logos remain ours. Buying coins or unlocking a pet does not transfer ownership of anything to you.
You may not:
- copy, sell, rent or redistribute the app;
- reverse-engineer, decompile or modify it, except where the law expressly allows it;
- remove notices or work around technical limits;
- use our API, store or generator with automated scripts, or in a way that places unreasonable load on our servers.
If you installed the app from the Mac App Store, Apple’s Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement also applies and prevails wherever the two disagree. These Terms are between you and HIHITEAM, not Apple: Apple is not responsible for the app or its content and has no obligation to support it, but Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
7. Pet pack files
Unlocking a pet, downloading it or generating it in Studio gives you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use that pet pack inside Petnunu — the app and the website — and nowhere else. It does not sell you the artwork, the sounds or any other file in the pack.
The files inside a pack — the sprites, the sounds and the manifest — are delivered to your Mac for one reason only: so the app can render the pet. For any pack you obtained through Petnunu, whether it is one of ours, a community pack or one you generated, you must not:
- extract, copy, export or re-package its files out of Petnunu, beyond what the app itself does when it installs the pet;
- redistribute it, or pass it to anyone who did not get it from Petnunu themselves;
- use its artwork or sounds in another app, game, video, print run, product, dataset or asset library;
- fetch pack files with scripts, proxies, download tokens or any tool other than the app. Download links are short-lived and tied to your account; passing one on is a breach of these Terms.
The licence is ours to withdraw. We may unpublish a pack, stop serving its files, or end your access to one you have already unlocked — because it breaks these Terms, because someone has made a credible claim against it, because the law requires it, or because we can no longer carry it. Where the reason has nothing to do with you, we give notice if the circumstances allow, and you can ask us to look at the decision again by writing to [email protected]. Coins you already spent are not refunded, except where the law where you live says they must be.
Signing out of your account, or deleting it, removes every pack you downloaded from that Mac: the app deletes them so the next person to sign in on the same machine does not inherit them. The pets built into the app stay. Worth knowing before you sign out — a pack you unlocked comes back only by downloading it again, with the account that unlocked it.
We do not hand out the source files behind a pack — layered artwork, project files, assets at their original resolution — and there is no feature that downloads them. If you need them, write to [email protected], telling us which pack it is and what you want to use it for. Where the pack belongs to another creator we pass the request on to them, and we answer case by case. Nothing is granted until we agree it with you in writing.
This section is about packs that reach you through Petnunu. It does not restrict what you do with content you made yourself — see "Content you create and share".
8. Content you create and share
You keep ownership of your content. We do not claim it.
So that we can actually run the service, you grant HIHITEAM a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, display, distribute and technically adapt your content (resizing, format conversion, packaging into a pack) inside Petnunu, and to show it in ordinary promotion of the service. The licence lasts while your content is on Petnunu, plus a short period for backups and caches.
You end the licence by deleting the content, or your account: the pack leaves the store and your own list, and nobody new can get it.
One part of it outlives that, and only one. Where other people have already unlocked your pack, the licence survives for those accounts alone: we keep the files and go on serving them, because otherwise deleting a pack would take away pets that other people paid coins for and cannot get back. The same happens when we close an account. It does not let us put the pack back on sale or show it to anyone else, and it ends for good once the last of those accounts lets the pack go.
Copies already downloaded to someone else’s Mac are beyond our reach.
When you post, you promise that:
- you made the content, or you hold the rights needed to share it;
- it does not infringe anyone’s copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
- it contains no malware, executable code or hidden payload — a pet pack may only contain PNG, JSON and WAV files;
- it is suitable for a general audience.
If you believe content on Petnunu infringes your copyright, follow our DMCA Policy.
Community pet packs are shared for free. You cannot set a coin price on a pet you share.
9. Things you must not do
Petnunu is meant to be a friendly place. You must not:
- post sexual content or nudity, and never anything that sexualises a minor;
- post violent, gory, hateful, harassing or discriminatory content;
- bully, threaten, stalk or expose the private information of another person;
- post spam, scams, advertising, chain messages or links to malware;
- impersonate another person or pass someone else’s pet off as your own;
- upload content you have no right to share, including sprites ripped from games, anime or other apps;
- attack other accounts, probe our servers, or bypass rate limits, download tokens or the moderation queue;
- exploit bugs to create coins, unlock pets or inflate the leaderboard;
- use Petnunu for anything illegal where you live.
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and for abusive behaviour. Accounts that break these rules can be suspended or closed without notice.
10. Reporting, blocking and moderation
Every community pet pack is reviewed by a moderator before it appears in the store, and a pack you re-upload goes back into the review queue. Pets you generate in Petnunu Studio stay private to you unless you choose to publish them, which also sends them for review.
Anywhere you see content from another user — a pet pack, a comment, a forum topic or a reply — you can report it. In the app, use the ⋯ menu on a pack card and choose "Report this pet…". On the website, use the report action on the item. Tell us what is wrong; the report goes straight into our moderation queue.
You can also block a creator from the same ⋯ menu in the app. Everything they share disappears from your store immediately, and you can undo it under Shop › Blocked creators.
We aim to review every report and remove content that breaks these Terms within 24 hours, and we ban the accounts responsible for serious violations.
Moderators can hide comments, delete topics and replies, lock or pin topics, reject or unpublish pet packs and ban accounts.
Some checks run automatically, with no human in the loop: pet pack files are validated on upload (PNG, JSON and WAV only, no executables), Studio prompts pass a keyword filter, and rate limits block bursts of requests. Everything else — reports, pack approvals, bans — is decided by a person. We do not profile you and we do not rank or recommend content based on your behaviour.
When we remove or restrict something of yours, we tell you what we did, which rule or law it was based on, and whether an automated check was involved. See "Reporting illegal content" for how to challenge it.
11. Reporting illegal content, and challenging our decisions
Besides the in-product report buttons, anyone — user or not — can notify us of content on Petnunu they consider illegal. This is the notice-and-action mechanism the EU Digital Services Act asks for. Write to [email protected] with:
- the exact location of the content — the pack id, the forum link, or a screenshot that shows where it is;
- why you consider it illegal, and under which law if you know it;
- your name and email address, so we can reply (you may leave these out for reports about child sexual abuse material or similar offences);
- a statement that, to the best of your knowledge, the information in your notice is accurate and complete.
We confirm receipt by email, decide in a timely, diligent, non-arbitrary and objective way, and tell you the outcome. A complete notice about clearly illegal content gives us actual knowledge of it, so please be precise. Copyright complaints have their own route — see our DMCA Policy.
If we act against your content or your account, you get a statement of reasons: what we did, how long it lasts, the facts we relied on, the rule or legal provision behind it, and whether an automated check was involved. You can challenge it by replying to that email within six months; a person who was not involved in the first decision reviews it, and we reinstate content we should not have removed.
We are a very small provider, so we are not required to run a formal internal complaint-handling system or to publish transparency reports. The email route above is our substitute for one, and we use it seriously. Whatever we decide, you keep the right to go to a court, and to any out-of-court dispute settlement body certified in your country under the Digital Services Act.
Where we learn of information suggesting that a criminal offence involving a threat to the life or safety of a person has taken place or is likely, we inform the competent authorities.
Notices sent in bad faith, and reports that are manifestly unfounded and repeated, may cost you access to the reporting tools after a warning.
12. Petnunu Studio and AI-generated pets
Petnunu Studio turns a short text prompt into a pixel-art pet. Running the generator costs coins; the price is shown before you start, and if the job fails your coins are returned automatically.
Prompts pass through a content filter. Prompts about sexual, violent or obviously copyrighted subjects are rejected — you can simply try another one.
A pet you generate is private to your account. It does not appear in the public gallery unless you publish it.
Generated artwork is produced automatically from your prompt. We cannot promise it is unique, and we make no promise about whether it can be protected as your own copyright work.
Whatever rights you may turn out to hold in a generated image, the pack itself reaches you the way every other pack does: under the licence in "Pet pack files", to be used inside Petnunu. We keep the right to store, serve and display the packs Studio makes for you, so that the service can work at all, and to look at a prompt and its result when we need to check for abuse or find out why the generator misbehaved.
Pets made in Studio are images generated by AI, and we mark them as such. Every pack Studio produces carries a machine-readable marker: a flag in its manifest and a note inside each PNG saying the image was made by a trained algorithm. Wherever a Studio pet appears on Petnunu, an "AI-generated" label appears with it. That is our duty as the provider of the generator under Article 50 of the EU AI Act, not something we do at our discretion, and there is no way to turn it off.
Your part is smaller but real: if you share a Studio pet somewhere else, do not present it as drawn by a person.
What you type, and any photo you upload, stays your responsibility. Describe a pet in your own words, and upload a photo only if you own it or have the right to use it. A pet built from someone else’s character or someone else’s picture is content we remove when a rights holder asks — see our DMCA Policy — and repeated cases cost the account.
13. Coins and virtual items
- Coins are virtual items inside Petnunu. They are not money, not a currency, not a payment instrument and not a stored-value account.
- You can earn coins for free — daily check-in, missions, achievements and the income your pets produce, all of which are capped.
- Where coin top-ups are available, you can also buy them. The number of coins and the price are shown before you pay.
- Coins are non-refundable, cannot be converted back into money, and cannot be transferred, sold or given to another account.
- Coins have no value outside Petnunu. Any balance is lost when the account is deleted, by you or by us, and we pay nothing for it.
- Unlocking a pet with coins gives you a licence to use that pet inside Petnunu. It does not make you the owner of the artwork.
- We may adjust coin prices, earning rates and pet prices as the in-game economy requires. Changes do not apply retroactively to coins you have already spent.
- If coins reach your wallet through a bug, an error or abuse, we may remove them.
14. Buying coins, refunds
In version 1.0 on the Mac App Store, coins can only be earned for free — that build does not sell coins.
Where we do sell coins: purchases made inside an Apple app are processed by Apple, and Apple’s terms and refund policy apply, so refund requests go to Apple. Card payments on the website are processed by Dodo Payments, which acts as merchant of record: you enter your card on their page and your card details never reach us. Payment by VietQR is not available yet.
Except where the law of your country gives you a refund right that cannot be waived — see "If you live in the EU, the EEA or the UK" below — a coin purchase is final once the coins are in your wallet.
Prices are shown inclusive of VAT or sales tax where it applies; our payment provider works out the rate from the country you give it. The payment page shows the number of coins, the final amount and the currency before you confirm, and the button that completes the order says so — clicking it creates an obligation to pay. There is no subscription: every top-up is a one-off purchase, and nothing renews.
15. If you live in the EU, the EEA or the UK
Consumer law where you live gives you rights that these Terms cannot take away. This section spells out the ones that matter here. It applies to you as a consumer — someone using Petnunu outside a trade or profession.
Right to withdraw from a coin purchase. You normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase of digital content, without giving a reason. That right ends early only if you asked us to start delivering immediately and acknowledged that you would lose it. Because coins land in your wallet the second the payment clears, we ask for that confirmation at checkout.
Until that confirmation is part of the payment flow, we treat the 14-day right as intact: email [email protected] within 14 days of a top-up and we will refund it, less any coins you have already spent, through the provider you paid. A short, clear statement is enough — "I withdraw from my purchase of <date>" — and you may use the model withdrawal form from your national consumer authority if you prefer.
Coins earned for free, and coins you have already spent on a pet, on food or on a Studio job, are outside this right: what you bought has been delivered and used.
Digital content must be as described. If the app, a pet you unlocked or a Studio job is faulty or does not match what we said it was, you can ask us to fix it, and if we cannot or do not fix it in reasonable time, ask for a proportionate reduction or a refund. This is your statutory guarantee; it is free of charge, it lasts as long as your country provides, and nothing under "No warranty" or "Limitation of liability" cuts it down.
Disputes. Please write to us first — most things are fixed by email in a day. We do not currently take part in any alternative dispute resolution scheme, and we are not obliged to; the EU online dispute resolution platform closed in July 2025. You can still take a complaint to the consumer authority or the European Consumer Centre in your country, or to a court.
16. Suspension and termination
You can stop using Petnunu whenever you like. You can delete your account from the app (account menu ⋯ → Delete Account…) or from the website. Deletion is permanent: your wallet, unlocked pets, uploads, comments, forum posts and any remaining coins go with it, and nothing is refunded.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, that puts other users or the service at risk, or that we are required by law to remove. Except where we have to act at once, we warn you first, and either way you get a statement of reasons and can ask a person to look again — see "Reporting illegal content, and challenging our decisions". For the most serious cases — sexual content involving minors, malware, or repeated copyright infringement — we act immediately and permanently.
If we ever have to shut the service down, we will announce it on the website with as much notice as we reasonably can.
17. Changes to the service and to these Terms
Petnunu is under active development. Features can change, be added or be withdrawn, and the store, coins, pet care and the forum need our servers to work.
We may update these Terms. When we do, we update the date shown at the top of this page. For changes that matter to you we give notice in the app or on the website at least 30 days before they take effect — sooner only where the law, a security problem or abuse forces our hand.
If you do not accept a change, stop using Petnunu and delete your account before the change takes effect; using Petnunu after that date means you accept the new version. Changes never apply backwards to a purchase you have already made.
18. No warranty
Petnunu is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties — express or implied — that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or fit for any particular purpose.
Petnunu is a small product built by a small team. Servers go down, generator jobs fail and data can be lost. Please keep your own copy of any pet pack that matters to you.
Nothing here takes away consumer rights that the law of your country does not allow us to exclude. If you are a consumer in the EU, the EEA or the UK, your statutory guarantee that digital content matches its description and works as it should applies in full, whatever this section says.
19. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, HIHITEAM is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss — including lost data, lost coins, lost pets, lost profits or lost goodwill.
For every other claim, our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or USD 50.
These limits never apply to death or personal injury caused by our negligence, to our own intent or gross negligence, to fraud, to liability under product liability law, or to anything else the law does not let us limit. Some countries do not allow parts of the limits above; there, they apply only as far as the law permits.
If you are a consumer in the EU, the EEA or the UK, we remain liable for foreseeable loss caused by our breach of these Terms, and for our statutory obligations regarding digital content.
20. Indemnity
You agree to cover HIHITEAM against claims, damages and reasonable legal costs that arise from your content, from the way you use Petnunu, or from your breach of these Terms — for example a copyright claim about a pet pack you uploaded. We will tell you about any such claim and let you take part in the defence.
21. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and any dispute goes to the courts of Singapore — unless the law of the country you live in gives you the right to bring a claim there instead.
If you are a consumer resident in the EU, the EEA or the UK, that choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of your own country, and you may bring proceedings in the courts where you live. We would sue you only there.
Before starting anything formal, please write to us at [email protected]. Almost everything is faster to fix by email.
22. Contact
Questions about these Terms? Email [email protected] and a human will read it. The same address is our point of contact for authorities and for notices about illegal content, in English or Vietnamese.
